Launched this year, the Duke Life Flight “Earn while you Learn” EMT Academy is a new innovative approach to recruiting Emergency Medical Technicians. This pilot program will provide a platform for individuals who always wanted to work in healthcare but who either didn’t know how to do so or didn’t have the resources. Participants will get paid while they complete a Life Flight specific orientation and while they attend a 3 month EMT training program at Durham Technical college. At the end of the program, participants will be certified Emergency Medical Technicians and employed as an EMT with the Duke Life Flight team.

Our initial Academy ran from May through September 2023.

The program is currently on hold for future academies.

This program will include EMT clinical and classroom instruction, Life Flight specific driver training, all while orienting to daily Life Flight operations.

Upon completion of the Academy, you will have the following:

-North Carolina EMT certification

-NC Emergency Vehicle Driver certification

-CPR/BLS card

-Fully employed and benefited Duke Employee

-A new and exciting career in Emergency Medicine!
